The ISOPlexis - Germplasm Bank, created in 1996, assumes the name, in 2019, of ISOPlexis - Centre for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Technology and becomes formed by the research groups ISOPlab and QSAlab, and by the internal structures’ BG ISOPlexis and ISOPservices.
ISOPlab promotes research, development, and innovation in the area of agriculture and biotechnology. The group's activity is mainly focused on the agrodiversity monitoring and the assessment of global climatic changes, in the phenotyping and genotyping of genetic resources, and in the assessment and valorization of biological resources and local productions. The group develops partnerships with companies in the area of agriculture, agro-food, and biotechnology. These partnerships seek, through research, to solve problems in these economic sectors.
QSALab promotes research and development in the areas of agro-food and industrial processes and ensures research related to the optimization of production processes and characterization of local products, through advanced analytical techniques, metabolomics, and data processing, using a diversified platform of equipment. The group has ensured several partnerships with companies in the wine and beverage sector in the region. These partnerships seek to solve problems of this economic sector through research.
The ISOPlexis BG, also called Germobanco, is a Germplasm Bank that ensures and maintains the Documentation and Information System (DIS) of the Genetic Resources for Agriculture and Food (GRAF) characteristic of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The DIS documents over 5000 accessions of the GRAF and maintains germplasm collections of local varieties, characterized with the help of the research work developed in projects or by ISOPLab and QSALab.
ISOP-Services is a Services and Technological Innovation Unit, which provides consulting or analytical services in different areas of its intervention, having a long history of partnerships with the business community and interested agents.
